When I was a young child, I had heard about the Silk Road from documentaries on television. What is the Silk Road? Is the Silk Road just about silk?

Thanks to the documentaries that I was exposed to as a child, when I think of the Silk Road, I would often associate it with the camel. I suppose it was not a mere coincidence that once visitors step into the “Traveling the Silk Road: Ancient Pathway to the Modern World” exhibition which is now being held at the ArtScience Museum, they were welcomed by three life-size camel models loaded with trade goods.

This exhibition is held from 19 Feb to 27 Mar 2011 at ArtScience Museum, Singapore. This means that we have less than a week left to visit it!

If you are still wondering whether to visit this exhibition, you could please read about my recent visit to Traveling the Silk Road: Ancient Pathway to the Modern World exhibition and decide if it would be worth your time and money to check out: One of the most treasured networks: The Silk Road.

Here is my afterthoughts: “I am in the humble opinion that the Silk Road is perhaps one of the most treasured networks in history.”  The Silk Road has facilitated the rich exchanges of ideas, cultures, technologies, commodities between people from diverse countries. Perhaps our world would have been stagnant if not for such exchanges that had happened centuries before we were born?

  1. Princess Road Said,

I’ve yet to visit this new museum (and will do so soon) but thinking of the $30 entry fee is putting me off a bit! Our more established museums charge only about $10, so ArtScience is 3 times more than the market rate. I’ve got to see this for myself…
