Have you ever wonder how is it like to live in China during the Cultural Revolution? When I first visit the Sunjin art gallery last weekend, I was captivated by this portrait entitled “Touch Point 8”. The artist Jin Yu, grew up during the Cultural Revolution which lasted from 1967 to 1979.

The portrait shows 2 ladies in white cheongsam who seem to be trapped and struggling to break free. Both of them are pressing hard against an invisible glass. It appears to me that the two Chinese ladies are mourning for the lost of freedom.
What inspires me about this portrait is the resilience of the Chinese, who believed that “Behind every cloud, there is a silver lining.”
