Seniors Guide the Seniors?

Posted by Angeline

Have you ever heard about the Chinese saying “to have a senior in the family is likened to having a priced treasure?”

Beside telling stories of the good old days and imparting their wealth of knowledge to the younger generation, seniors are also actively guiding in museums as well! At the National Museum yesterday (Monday, 26 May), enthusiastic senior volunteer guides led 40 senior citizens through the Singapore History Gallery.

For some of the senior citizens, yesterday could be their first trip back to museum after a long time. They were in a cheery mood as the dynamic and energetic senior guides recount stories from the past using dialects to better relate to some. The curry puffs and MacDonalds meal at the end of the tour further pumped up their spirits. All in all, it was a great experience for me!

The good news is, senior citizens aged 60 and above who missed out on the tour can visit NHB Museums for free this weekend! In conjunction with International Museum Day, 19 museums around Singapore will also feature 39 exciting events and activities. Whats more, senior citizens can enjoy free admission to NHB museums every Monday too!

I’m looking forward to bringing my grandparents to the museums this weekend. You never know, a visit to the museums might unearth more treasure troves of stories from my “treasures in the family”. =)
