How I wonder how you are…

How’s everybody doing after one mad week of IMD? Well, get some rest and prepare for another exciting weekend!

ramayana-exhibition_smallAn epic legend of love and adventure is about to unfold under a sea of stars. The Peranakan Museum will host Ramayana under the Stars at Stamford Green on 22 May, with the classic tale coming alive as an immersive musical experience amidst engaging performances. Wayang kulit, pantomime sessions and gamelan shows will entrance audiences, whilst numerous stores will be selling local snacks such as otah and kueh tutu to ensure that visitors will not go hungry.

ramayanastars_mapKids can make their own shadow puppets and perhaps pick up a trick or two from the dalang (puppet master) behind the scenes. If they are more inclined towards being in the limelight, they can even get their face painted and become characters in their own epic stories. Balloon artists and cartoonists will also be around to share their art so kids are bound to be entertained.

stop-and-touch-station-2-smallWhat’s more, these activities (which are absolutely free of charge!) will stretch into the night, allowing for the soft moonlight and mystical atmosphere to bring out the timeless allure of the Ramayana. Admission to the Peranakan Museum will be free from 3pm to 11pm, so be sure to check out the Ramayana Revisited exhibition and other permanent exhibits at the Peranakan Museum, which tell an equally compelling story of the Peranakans, their lives and their significant place in Singapore’s history.

Ramayana under the Stars

Children Season continues with Legend of the Magnificent Moon and Antoine and the Paper Aeroplane shows on 21, 22 and 23 May.  There will also be Fun with Fabrics workshops on 22 and 23 May that allow parent and child to become playmates and co-authors of their very own story. Artist Tay Bee Aye, the creator of the soft sculptures in The Imaginary Story Land, will be on hand to help parent and child teams create their own unique storyboard that they can bring home and wow guests with. For more details on the bookings and timings, log on to the IMD website! (See link at the end of the post)

If your child enjoys doodling all over his or her textbooks and often fills them up with sketches of imaginary creatures, pop over to the MINT Museum of Toys for Doodlemania as proteges of Einstein Kristiansen (crayon-wielding, super-doodling host of kiddie art shows such as Art Factory), trainers with Doodlechamps, will help channel these artistic inclinations into creative genius! Alternatively, form a team of two with your family members in a fun race around Marina Barrage and stand to win S$50 worth of dining vouchers!

Don’t miss this last weekend of activities!
