During my really quick trip to ION Orchard yesterday, I got deterred from buying shoes by this great exhibition in the middle of Basement 4 – Noise City, the festival showcase of Noise Singapore 2011.

For the uninitiated, Noise Singapore is a National Arts Council initiative that encourages the creativity of Singaporean youths through a variety of platforms. Noise City, in turn, is a showcase which features some of the best illustrations, artworks, photographs and music selected from the submissions made to Noise Singapore.

As I was walking through the showcase, I was really impressed by the great variety and the high quality of these artworks! I also particularly enjoyed the artwork displays from the youths who were chosen to undergo The Apprenticeship Program (TAP), which connect talented emerging artists with professionals and veterans in the creative industries.

Apart from all the art on display, Noise City also had a section selling items such as iPhone covers and badges designed by Singaporean artists, as well as a corner for visitors to create a piece of artwork for themselves. I also loved that they organised an open mic session for local musicians!

Unfortunately, as I still had to buy my pair of shoes, I didn’t have time to completely go through the festival showcase and will have to try to make another trip back before it ends on 7 March 2011. If you’re a little tired of going through the same shops over and over again (like me), do make a visit to this wonderful exhibit before it closes and show our aspiring young artists some support!
