15 lucky taxi drivers and their families were led on a special tour by Explore Singapore! ambassador, Mark Lee at the Singapore Art Museum on Friday, 7 December. With larger than life pictures, a goody bag, and free lunch, these tourist-friendly cabbies walked away with an updated knowledge of our museums and a mini art education to boot!

The queue for the Taxi Driver Open House formed well before 10.30am as cabbies drove into the driveway of the Singapore Art Museum and patiently waited for a glimpse of celebrity Mark Lee.

Mark Lee arrived shortly after and delighted many a cabby as he personally handed out 20 goody bags filled with vouchers, supplements, water bottle, and free museum entry pass.

The Open House continued inside the museum as 15 lucky taxi drivers from Comfort and SMRT and their families were brought on a tour of The Big Picture Show by Mark. Walking them through the exhibition of huge expanses of paintings from the region, Mark showed off his newly acquired knowledge of the meaning and origins of each of the paintings.

Here Mark explains a painting that revolves around the notion of waiting and how humans spend the better part of their lives just waiting…

Can you believe that this entire painting is drawn using pencil?! Mark stuns the crowd with this revelation.

Mission accomplished! Mark delivered a well-received tour that delighted both young and old.

And it was thumbs up all around from the cabbies!

Taxi Driver Open House is part of Explore Singapore! which happens from 10 November 2007 to 31 December 2007. For more information on Explore Singapore!, visit http://www.museums.com.sg/explore or call 62214463.
