Sarong Kebaya Exhibition

The Peranakan culture is said to be one of the most vibrant cultures due to its diverse influences. ‘Peranakan’ means locally born and refers to the communities in Malacca, Penang and Singapore from the old colonial days.

As mentioned earlier, its diverse influence is a unique blend of the Chinese and Malay traditions with a hint of European influence to it. wonderful mix of cultures has added liveliness into our multi-cultural society today and also influenced the way women these days dress.

And what better way to discover the history of how the traditional sarong kebaya fashion came about than at the Sarong Kebaya Exhibition held at the Peranakan Museum! The exhibition traces back fascination aspects about the origins and evolution of the sarong kebaya over five centuries.
