The best time to soak up celebratory atmosphere and immerse in the colourful world of Chinese heritage and culture is during the coming weeks to Chinese New year in Chinatown itself.
Streets are filled with colourful festive decorations, there are about more than five hundred stalls selling traditional foods, flowers, handicrafts, candies, melon seeds and more!
I have to admit, this was my first time in Chinatown during a festive season like this and I was easily distracted during filming-straying off to shops, admiring the light-ups, hearing my stomach grumble just looking at delicious food they have, having a chat with stall vendors who are just as friendly as everyone else is there and a whole more. There was just so much excitement in one place itself!
However, the one thing that really stood out amidst the decorations and line of stalls is perhaps the very well conserved heritage building that they have in Chinatown. These architectural buildings make Chinatown unique in its own way-Our past conserved so beautifully well and transported into our present time. It is a reminder of what it was like for our forefathers back in those days, it is simply an experience like no other.
Speaking of an experience like no other, the Chinatown Heritage Centre is truly a one of a kind museum. Have an insightful walk around the centre and be taken on a nostalgic journey relieving moments from the past. Every bit and corner of the centre has been created with such authentic perfection of the living conditions of early immigrants in Chinatown! Imagine that!
I had an stupendously awesome time shooting this episode alongside with Zaidah (even despite our trouble with congested traffic). Decoration light-ups, friendly stall vendors, a lot of good spirit going around, mouth-watering food, pretty handicrafts and a lot of shopping. Need I say more?
