Laokokok indulges in a bit of techie nostalgia as he blogs about the pager. The what? If you had to ask, you probably are a 90s kid! The pager was a small communications device that people called if they wanted to reach you. This black device, which was usually hung on your belt, would beep and show you a number to call back. It was popular in the late 80s and early 90s.

Pagers used to be purely numeric, although later models had an alpha numeric option where you could punch in numbers to form words, much like how one smses these days. For the more innovative of us, we would create numerical codes to indicate common messages like, “Will be late”, “Going home” and the like. It’s even possible to create messages using numbers and turning the pager upside down to read the “words” formed! I can’t remember those numbers anymore – does anyone still remember those codes?
