Long Hair Not Allowed!

Posted by noelbynature

There was a time when long hair for men was a major social stigma – Pirates of the Caribbean would probably not be allowed to screen in Singapore in the 1960s and 70s because of all the men sporting long hair, and there was a chance you would be turned away at the checkpoint for having hair that was too long! Laokokok takes us back to the time when it was no fun to be a male with long hair.

Do you still remember the above posters put up in most government bodies? Of course not in the current era, it happened in the 60s/70s – in Singapore haha. Long hair males were frowned upon in the past.
You may laugh it off now, but in the past it’s no fun at all. Male artistes with long hair were not allowed to appear on TV too; male with long hair will also be stopped at Woodlands immigration checkpoint and turned away until they had their hair cut. Think that was around 1972.

  2. Lorna Said,

I almost wanted to laugh at this — until I remembered that Malaysia used to do this as recent as the late 80s and early 90s :O
