If you’re well-travelled – in Southeast Asia, especially – then you would probably would have encountered the roadside food vendor selling everything from ice cream to skewered pieces of meat. Singapore-the-food-paradise also once had its fair share of streetside vendors, and now you can learn about them in the Singapore Street Food Gallery at the National Museum. Jaymes 007 visited the gallery last month and was reminded of how his grandfather was one such vendor.

My grandfather was a street hawker selling Hainanese Chicken Rice before he set up shop. The streets where hawkers cooked and served diners were dirty and smelly, There was no water facility and proper disposal of wastes. Sometimes diners got food poisoning.![]()
