Singapore’s soccer glory days

Posted by noelbynature

While we eagerly await (and pray for) the recovery of Singapore’s veteran soccer star,  Dollah Kassim, Ding An writes a thought-provoking tribute about the Gelek King and our glory days of soccer.

Ding An, the director of the Kallang Roar writes:

If you knew Dollah Kassim, you would know that his generation were part time footballers,
that didn’t complain, put your head down, hard work and move forward. Paid little, and yet a
nation’s expectation fell on their shoulders. So it couldn’t have been money they were playing
for….but something else.

Read Ding An’s thought provoking article U don’t know Dollah Kassim.

Also read Uncle Dicko’s memories of the faithful Malaysia Cup win of 1977, when Singapore won a dramatic 3-2 against Penang in a game that went into overtime. Check out his collection of newspaper clippings from the Sunday Times and the New Nation on here and here.
