Today, I was privileged to be able to take a look behind the scenes of BodyArt. An event held in conjunction with fiction@love, an exhibition running from tomorrow (12 May) to 2 July at the Singapore Art Museum (SAM). Artists such as ZERO and Ai Yamaguchi, who are having their works shown at fiction@love, painted intently for BodyArt… on human canvases. These “human canvases” then paraded around town, giving Singaporeans something different to look at.
Ai Yamaguchi painted on two models something reminiscent of her mural, hyaku no hana, yuri wa furitsutsu:

While local artist ZERO (“Hello,I am a foreign talent” and “Art in Progress” from my previous post are part of his work) painted on his model in his unique style:

After ZERO was done, his model reported little children “cowering” at the sight of his face. Oh dear… :S

Two other models were dressed up with little red furballs that reminded me of local artist’s Claire Lim’s work, Hidden Ghost (BodyArt done by Joanne Lim):

With the number of helium balloons attached to the two girls, it’s a wonder they didn’t float away!
After the models were all dressed up, we snapped a few photos:

And then we were off!

The first stop, outside Caltex House (Raffles Place):

Once there, the models were tasked with giving out badges and one-for-one entry passes for fiction@love, and so they began to work the crowd:

Just how did the people react?

But one thing was for sure; in true Singaporean spirit, about 99% of the crowd were eager to get ahold of the FREEEEE badges and passes. :p
The models also had to convince passers-by to take polaroids with them at the fiction@love stand, and miraculously, they succeeded getting a number of camera shy people to do so! Maybe it’s because the polaroid-taking would mean they stood a chance to win Nokia N-Series Phones… The catch being that their pictures would be plastered on SAM’s walls.

BodyArt also goes to Plaza Singapura and to SAM today. Can you spot them?
If not, head down to Ngee Ann City (1-3pm) or Shaw House (4-6pm) on Saturday (13 May) to catch BodyArt in action. Perhaps you could get trigger happy too! : )

Hi anon, the furballs+balloons work was modelled after Claire’s artwork. However, the actual bodyart was done by Joanne. The post has been amended to better reflect this.
