What is the significance of discovering a ninth-century shipwrecked Arab dhow off the coast of Belitung, a small island in the Java Sea?

In case you were to ask, Belitung is to the south-east of the Singapore Strait by 380 miles (610 km) (view source).

While I am still learning more about this significant discovery in maritime history, I felt privileged to learn about this important discovery without even having to travel out of Singapore.

Right in Singapore at the Art Science Museum, the exhibition “Shipwrecked: Tang Treasures and Monsoon Winds ” brings to us physical proof of a maritime silk route that had possibly inspired the story of Sinbad the Sailor from the One Thousand and One Nights. Consider visiting it soon.

If you would like a glimpse of the exhibition, here is sharing the experience of my first visit to this exhibition: Rare treasures from the maritime silk route.
