Having posted nostalgic posts for awhile, I feel like I’m traveling back in time. From the mosaic playgrounds to the toys I played when I was little. To continue my journey, I took a trip down the history of Singapore. I did that in ultra comfort (in a clean and cool place), with my own personal companion.

This looks like an enlarged ipod with a few extra buttons and bigger screen. It comes with a set of earphones and a strap that lets you hang your personal companion over your neck. With this, I started exploring the Singapore History Gallery.

This enlarged “ipod” is filled with lots of information about the displays and exhibitions. You can also choose to listen to stories and explanations when you enter a new gallery.
I was very impressed with the many galleries and exhibits at the Singapore History Gallery! I spent more than three hours walking around and only managed to cover part of the entire gallery. Remembering what I learned from my visit to the Asian Civilisation Museum, one should concentrate on certain themes when visiting a museum at any one time. Never try to cover the entire place in one visit. You’ll probably get too tired by the time you’re halfway through or you simply won’t enjoy the true experience.
With that in mind, I focused on exhibits and galleries that attracted my attention or of things that I can relate better with. And this signboard caught my attention. Do you know which establishment is this for? The set-up should already give you an idea.

Yes. This is the signboard for John Little back in 1845.
There’s also a gallery showcasing the history of Singapore’s public transport. There are old road signs hanging from the ceiling and photos showing the changes that took place over the years.

On one side of the wall, which I personally love, is covered with lots of logos, labels and posters from the yesteryear. Can you spot any familiar ones?

There’s also a retro gallery where you can find bright orange and red lamps, super cool looking chairs, electrical appliances and retro televisions!

There are many more interesting and nostalgic displays at the Singapore History Gallery. If you’re inspired and curious to experience it yourself, go visit the National Museum of Singapore soon! Best of all, museum admission is free during public holidays! Bring your children, parents and grandparents along! Nothing beats experiencing it on your own! So don’t just read about them! Go see, feel and touch too!
Oh! And while you’re there, don’t just look straight while you walk. Look up too! There might just be something interesting up in the ceiling.
