Even in our basic history texts, we remember the years 1942-1945 as the dark days of Singapore because of the Japanese Occupation during World War II. In the Pacific region, the war finally ended with the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, a tragic loss of life which led to the Japanese surrender aboard the USS Missouri.
