Besides donning on red and white, there are other ways to get into the spirit of National Day. To celebrate our nation’s 44th birthday, enjoy free admission to all NHB museums this weekend (8 & 9 August)!

nms_9aug The oldest museum with the youngest soul – National Museum of Singapore (NMS) – will delight visitors with its many programmes hosted on 9 August. Love stories of Singapore? Let the Godmother of Singapore Storytelling – Sheila Wee – enthrall you with her amazing tales of our country. Catch Kathakali production titled Prince Sang Nila Utama Discovering Singapore, Silat performances and Xinyao tunes by singers from the Musicdreamer Live! Cafe throughout the day. Ravenous? Celebrated chef and author Irene Jansen will whip up a storm during the Family Culinary Workshop. Learn to make Crispy Roti Jala, Cheezy Chicken Sandwich, Hot Chocolate and Orange Slush!

For shopaholics, the popular flea market, Flea-tique at the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) is back! Enjoy an array of over 70 stalls hawking their wares. Rejoice for there will be special discounts and promotions from selected vendors – all linked to the very patriotic colours of red and white, and the magical number 44! Also at SAM, travel back in time for a slice of photographic history and create a pin-hole camera with recycled items, or get dressed in our national colours and stand to win attractive prizes!

At the Singapore Philatelic Museum (SPM), colour yourself crazy and express your creativity with the museum’s unique shading templates. Discover the fascinating world of stamps during the guided tours that will take place throughout the day. Make and take home your own Baba and Nonya by experimenting with the use of diffierent types of fabric, batik, colourful beads, and accessories at the Peranakan Museum (TPM). Learn the ways of the Baba during the guided tour for children at TPM’s Straits Family Weekend.

Dying to catch the spectacular fireworks but haven’t got seats at the National Day Parade? Catch the ‘live’ big screen telecast of the pyrotechnics at the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) from 6.25pm! Free ice-cream to help with the heat is available from 3 to 6pm. Don’t miss the Hunters and Collectors special exhibition, as the museum stays open till 10pm this weekend!
