Little is known about the story of Kembangan. Located at the east side of Singapore. Kembangan is a Malay word for ‘expansion’. If you were to drive around Kembangan, you would notice that the street names are in Malay e.g, Jalan Awang, Lorong Sarina, Jalan Senyum, etc. These street names serve as evidence of Kembangan’s Malay kampong origins.
To give you an idea of what life was like in Kembangan back then, we’ll be exploring the collection of photos kindly contributed by our fellow I Love Museums Facebook fan, Taufiq Jaafar.
This is a story of his family, the story of Lorong Mydin.

Taufiq’s father when he was young.
Simple activities they used to do for fun. (There were no console games back then
)
Firecrackers – now banned in Singapore.
Tune in next week when we will reveal more about the good old days of Lorong Mydin.

Kembangan area has all Malay street names but not necessary all Malay kampongs. Before 1955
Kampong Eunos had almost 100% Chinese. Lor. Sarina was not named yet. Earlier than 1950 there were Chinese vegetable gardens between Kg. Eunos and Lorong Mydin. For Kg. Eunos see my blog here<
