An interview with Kwa Chin Swee

For the sports trivia buffs: have you heard of Kwa Chin Swee? He was a celebrated cyclist from the 50s to the 70s. The KampongKakis, a group blog by six cycling enthusiasts, caught up with Mr Kwa last month to talk about how the cycling scene began in Singapore.


For three decades, Singapore’s most celebrated cyclist Kwa Chin Swee remained elusive and almost forgotten. He has had dominated the sports locally and that of Malayan cycling from the 50s through 70s and was also instrumental in the founding of SACA ( Singapore Amateur Cycling Association ) as well as its application for UCI ( Paris ) affiliation in 1957. The Kampongkakis visited this revered octogenarian recently and came away awed not least, inspired by his continuing passion.
