Yesterday Singapore observed Total Defence Day, a day chosen because it was the day Singapore fell to the Japanese invasion in 1942. This year is particularly significant as it is the 70th anniversary.
Here are three timely posts from several heritage bloggers about Singapore and World War II:
- Jerome writes about the events at Bukit Chandu and his tour of the air raid shelter at Tiong Bahru in Remembering the ultimate expression of love on the 14th of February.
- Katong Gal shares her interview with her grandfather who lived through the Japanese Occupation in Our Darkest Hour Begins
- Otterman blogs about the 20 heritage markers commemorating the 50 war sites in Singapore, paying special attention to one of the new sites commemorating the Rimau 10 Execution Site
