Taken from one of the webpages from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore:
With the commencement of the Marina Barrage construction by the Public Utilities Board in March 2005, operations at Clifford Pier will be affected.
Please be informed that as of 1st April 2006, operations of ferry and launch services at Clifford Pier will be relocated to Marina South Pier…
To me, Clifford Pier will never be the same without the ferries. Somehow, Clifford Pier and the waters about it looked bare without the operation of the ferry services.
Right below are a few photos that I have taken on 2 April 2006 of Clifford Pier after the ferry services have ceased operations. Without the ferries, it just looked lifeless to me.

I confessed that I can be quite an ignorant person. I am not quite familiar with the history of Clifford Pier. I just happen to like the sights of the ferries moving about the waters around Clifford Pier.
To fill those gaps in my limited knowledge, I spent a brief moment surfing on the internet for information on Clifford Pier. From one of the pages from Live.Life!@eCitizen, I found out that Clifford Pier was named after Governor Sir Hugh Charles Clifford of the Straits Settlements.

I read that Clifford Pier was opened in the year 1933, way before I was born. I remember hearing the locals here refer to Clifford Pier as “Red Lantern Pier”. I just don’t quite understand why. Would anyone care to enlighten please?
Putting the history of Clifford Pier aside, I am now trying to just savour those moments in the past whereby the ferry services still operated at Clifford Pier.
The following images might be sights that we will no longer get to see at Clifford Pier:

Life will still goes on. Maybe it is just not the same as we used to know.
