SGalf shares a little bit of Tiong Bahru history with a crime story from almost 30 years ago about a man who killed his mother and dumper her the body on the roof of Block 53.
For SGalf, the location of the murder had a personal connection:
For a few weeks around November 1982, there was a horrible stench and I was told that a cat or dog probably died on the roof.
The stench seems to come after a mysterious blackout that happened during one of the nights.
We all concluded later that the murderer must have caused the blackout so that he could move the body up in stealth.
Eventually the body of an old lady was found on the roof of block 53 and since that was the only staircase with roof access, the murderer must have used the same staircase that I used to access my grandma’s place.
SGalf recounts more memories of the Block 53 murder, along with stories of Block 53 itself in The murder that freaked my brother and me out.
