Homes of our Yesteryears

This picture taken in the late 19th century shows a Malay village.

When I look at this picture, I am lost for words– for a myriad of reasons.
I am lost for words because I feel very proud because Singapore has changed alot since the days depicted in the picture. I don’t get to see any more villages in our island.

I am lost for words because I feel we must consider ourselves very lucky to live in standard HDB flats now while the people in the
olden days lived in uncomfortable house made of attap, wood etc. with insufficient clean waters and electricity.

I am lost for words because I cannot imagine a toilet without a flush.

I am lost for words because I am busy counting my lucky stars.
