On 12 April, Ly Yng wrote about Dr Habibie’s 1998 reference to Singapore as the “little red dot”, and posted a picture of a rare 1969 map that illustrates this. But little did we know that a few years before that map, this sunny island in the sea was a red dot elsewhere…
Some years before the 1969 map, a First Day Cover in 1960 had shown Singapore as a little red dot in South East Asia.

This First Day Cover also shows the wording, ” State of Singapore, National Day, June 3rd”. I think not many Singaporeans, especially the post 1965′ers, know that we celebrated National Day on June 3rd in the years 1960-1963.
So there you go…yet another nugget of our country’s past unearthed and revealed!
Many thanks to Dr. WK Tan for the contents and picture that make up this entry.
