More Great World Memories

Posted by noelbynature

Besides the Green Hornet, whom many readers would remember a less-comedic, more serious action-hero version gracing our airwaves in the 1960s and 1970s, another nostalgic film hits the silver screens during this festive Chinese New Year season. It’s a Great Great World hits a lot closer to home – it’s a homegrown film about a place no longer existing in Singapore.

While one might be tempted to think that since It’s a Great Great World is a movie and that the stories can’t be true, how about hearing from real people and their memories of the Great World amusement park? Peter Chan shares some of his memories in a couple of posts on Good Morning Yesterday:

Kelvin Tong has his 2011 “It’s A Great Great World” film to tell the story of a multitude of characters who lived, worked, played, sang, danced and fell in love in Great World Amusement Park. But long before that movie came along, my cousins and I made our playground at the Great World Amusement Park; each of us had different childhood experiences.

Peter shares some childhood experiences of the Great World here, and also some of the wartime history of Great World here.
