this was the duxton pinnicle in the 70s!!! now is awaiting to be demolished

We met at the Singapore Botanical Garden main entrance on Sunday. Riding today was Francis, Sharon, Tah Ching, Sitoh, Yoon Jung, Amy, Thomas, Rodney and I. A motley of mountain bike (MTB), old school bike with basket, Flamingos, JZ88 and ‘chapalang’ MTB was used.

The ride to Dempsey area was pretty straight forward and we roamed around for a bit. Then we headed to Margaret Drive for Singapore old style breakfast. This was the place where I used to eat as Temasek Polytechnic was located at Stirling Road.

We explored around the area and Tah Ching told me that he grew up at Queensway as a boy. That was “Duxton Pinnacle” then when compared to the old kampongs. We rolled slowly to Leng Kee where all the car show rooms was located and explored Tiong Bahru. Once again, we stipped at the iconic hairdresser signage to take a photo for old time sake. It is strange because we were there not too long ago, but something just pulled us here.

To make things more challenging, Thomas bike did a murphy on him. His tyre was losing air after all the jumps and acrobatics. We rushed to one shop after another only to find them closed. When murphy likes you, he really likes you.

Finally we reached Treknology and got the flat fixed. I think this is the most ‘siong’ ride for Thomas. We split with the main group at Orchard and made our way back on two wheels. Riding along mostly PCN…it took us about 1.5 hours to reach Punggol. Total mileage – 50km. Nice and well done Sitoh!

Live to ride, ride to eat!

  1. Francis Said,

it’s a lovely Sunday morning, with nice people and great places to visit. should do it more often. Cycling is a perfect way to explore Singapore, fast enough to cover a large area, yet easy to make stops anywhere to appreciate the location, the food and the people.
