Asian Civilisation Museum, Armenian Street 
I read on the National Heritage Board’s website: “ACM, Armenian Street, closed it doors for the last time on 31 Dec 2005. Plans are now underway for the development of a full-fledged Peranakan Museum in its place, which will open in 2008.”
For now, I shall admire this picture and hope for its return.
The building that you see above was formerly Tao Nan School established in 1906 by the Hokkien Clan Association for the local Chinese.
For the past few years, when I think of the Asian Civilisation Museum, I would associate it with the exhibition Peranakan Legacy. This association was perhaps inevitable, since the exhibition has been the museum’s permanent exhibition since year 2000. I have asked friends to join me to visit this exhibition over the past years, and they seemed to have enjoyed it.
But if you ask me (though please don’t ask me why), my favourite exhibition held at this museum was Eternal Egypt: Treasures from the British Museum. I somehow have an interest in ancient civilisations.
Pardon me for my wishful thinking: I am hoping for a museum solely dedicated to the ancient history of Singapore.

Eternal Egypt was my favourite too! I still have a scroll with my name in heiroglyphs. Did you take that souvenir home, too?
Recently I’ve discovered that ACM, Armenian is a treasure trove for small exhibitions. They had one on Ghandara Buddhist sculptures and one on post-Modern photographers from China. Both were very cool!

I feel that old buildings should be preserved. The architecture and the symbolism of the whole place reflects Singapore’s history and how the country was built.
