As we look to the start of the decade of the twenty-teens, how about turning around and taking a look back at the world 50 years ago? The 1960s or Swinging Sixties were noted for social revolutions worldwide – for women, blacks and new and emerging nation-states – like Malaysia, and subsequently Singapore in 1963 and 1965 respectively.

yg calls the 60s the “most exciting decade”:
looking back, the 60s was indeed an exciting era. other momentous events and happenings of that decade include the march for jobs and freedom led by martin luther king jr, the hippies ‘with flowers in their hair’ strolling down the roads of san fancisco, the bay of pigs invasion and the woodstock festival. others may remember the death of marilyn monroe, elvis presley’s marriage to priscilla beaulieu and twiggy’s impact on the fashion scene.
You can read his reflections of the decade in his post here. In his post, yg writes about the most exciting/pivotal events that happened on a world scale – but what about locally? Click here to see some of the things that happened in Singapore during the 1960s.

As a ‘child of the sixties’ I have to say it was a great decade!
Interestingly the music is still being played all over the word and The Beatles are still the greatest pop group..ever.
