This is an old picture of the Causeway taken in the year 1906.

This picture shows the Causeway linking Singapore to Malaysia. When I realise that it was taken so long ago I am awed by the fact that we have been phycically linked to our closest neighbour, Malaysia for so many years. The picture is so metaphorical– the choppy waters symbolise that regardless of weather conditions, rain or shine, Malaysia and Singapore are inseparable. Trying to separate us is like separating Laleh and Ladan Bijani– the Nepalese Siamese Twins whom Singapore doctors tried to separate in vain. Breaking us up is as good as “killing” both Singapore and Malaysia.
