Today, taking the bus is a breeze

Posted by noelbynature

Not only is taking the bus a breeze, but air-conditioned too! Public buses today offer a level of comfort unheard of three decades ago – fully air-conditioned, handicap-friendly, and frequent, too. During a recent bus ride, chinatownboy reflects how much bus travel has changed from then to now.

There was a time when bus fares were only 5 cents for a one way trip:

I could not help reminiscing the days when everyday was a struggle chasing after the bus. It was in my secondary school days when I had only 30 cents to 50 cents to take me to school, had my recess and back. Bus fare was inexpensive (when we look back) at 5 cents one way. But catching that bus was not easy. 7am in the morning was too late.

Of course, the price was not the only big difference between bus travel then and now – there was also the level of comfort, inspections, and even the bus services that remain. Read chinatownboy’s post Catching Bus is no fun and I’m sure you’ll agree – catching the bus today is a lot more fun!
