Singapore’s other tourism and nature icon, the lovable Orang Utan Ah Meng passed away one week ago amid the Chinese New Year celebrations. Here are some of the tributes to the furry dame that have popped up last week:

Ah Meng passed away this morning
Rest in peace, Ah Meng. Singapore will never forget you and the contributions you have made to our tourist industry. It is sad that she’s gone, but at least she left behind a huge family with four children and six grandchildren.
Ah Meng, Singapore’s Beloved Orangutan Matriarch, dies at 48
Never had an animal resident of the Singapore Zoo touched the lives of so many visitors – locals and foreigners alike – like it’s famous and well-loved Orang Utan, Ah Meng.
I remember meeting her when I was a kid. The zoo was one of the places my parents used to bring us to spend our holidays. Ah Meng was not yet hosting the breakfast programme, but she was popular with kids and adults alike at the photo-taking session.
Tribute To Ah Meng The Orang Utan
It was a shocking news to hear that Ah Meng the celebrity orang utan from the Singapore zoo had died yesterday on 8th February…
My foreign readers might have heard of her. If you have, great! If you haven’t, it isn’t too late. The late Ah Meng is a Sumatran Orang Utan. She came to the Singapore Zoo in 1971 after she was confiscated from a house. Ever since then, she has been given the best care and love from some of the finest keepers this country has seen.
