Newton Food Centre Reopening in July (The Straits Times)

The new food centre borrows design elements from old colonial black-and-white terrace houses with improvements like high ceilings, added greenery for a plantation feel, more seats, larger stalls and improved toilets.

The new $4.8 million look of the centre, better known as Newton Circus, will be a throwback to Singapore’s colonial era, and its landscape will recreate the atmosphere of the plantations that once dominated the area.

The refurbished hawker centre will open its doors again for business on 1 July and its architecture will be based largely on Singapore’s colonial heritage.
