We visited Home Sweet Home @ Compass Point and were pleased to find items close to our hearts.

We were quite fascinated with the fact that a large section of the display was dedicated to popular hobbies and collectibles in Singapore.
Compass Point shopping centre is situated in Sengkang, and we’ve personally observed crowds of people flying kites and playing football on open fields around the area. It was nice to see these hobbies being mentioned in the exhibition.

The nostalgia of past football glories is noted in this display, and it is great to know that the new generation will have their own heroes and memories when Singapore rejoins the Malaysia Cup in 2012.

We also do know for a fact that there is a large collector community in the area. The very space that is currently occupied by Home Sweet Home was used to host Gundam Fiesta for the past two years. It was great to see collectibles of days past on display.
This is the very first time we’ve seen an Airfix model, which is a brand that is wistfully mentioned by older kit modellers.

Cabbage Patch doll which somehow looked evil to us in our youth.

GI Joe and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are toy lines that are still going strong these days. We can only hope some eager collector doesn’t swipe any of the figures of the shelf.

Whether by design or not, we felt that it was awesome that the curator of this exhibition managed to place a finger on the pulse of the Sengkang community.
As with the other Singapore HeritageFest venues, you’ll want to visit during the weekends and catch a bevy of stage performances from our local talents.

SINGAPORE HERITAGEFEST 2011
15 – 31 July
Every year, the Singapore HeritageFest (SHF) brings both young and old together to celebrate our city’s charms, multicultural community and rich history.
This year, in our eighth Festival and the largest one yet, we transform the island into a feast of music, dance, art, food and numerous interactive experiences, in tribute to all that we love about our home, Singapore.
SHF 2011’s theme, Home – What We Love About It!, welcomes you to rethink what it means to call this city home. In an exciting three-week exploration, rediscover the city’s local cultures and practices, travel back to times past and present, and experience fully our living heritage.
