Thanks to everyone for your feedback about our “It’s A Great Great World” Movie Screening specially put together for our I Love Museums Facebook Fans.

Here’s two of our fans’ takes on the event.

“Through the film, I learnt a great deal about Great World (I have never heard of it prior to watching the movie) and IMO, the all-star cast did an excellent job in this collaborated effort, portraying the ups and downs of the various characters so well, bringing tears to the eyes (from laughing too much and from sadness).”

It's a Great Great World I Love Museums Facebook Fan Day at National Museum of Singapore

“A big THANK YOU to the lovely people at Yesterday.sg for all the hard work! Do drop by their Facebook page to show your support. :)

Check out Jade’s review of our event at her blog.

“Watching this movie at the museum holds a different kind of meaning compared to watching it in the cinema. Museums is a place that exhibits collections of historical importance and to be able to watched this movie which brings us back to the 1950s to see how Great World City used to be when it was called 大世界/Tai Say Kai/Great World is like transporting us back to that era and attending a history class.”

Drop by Jas’ blog for her full post.

Do give us a shout if here or at our FB page if you’ve any thoughts about the event. Thanks to everyone for making this event a success and it was awesome meeting up with all of you.

Student Hazel Tan discovers that there are many similarities between ancient Romans and modern Singaporeans when it comes to property, water and roads.

We attended the media preview of Pompeii: Life in a Roman Town 79CE and the session was an intriguing one for us, especially after looking  at all the collection of artefacts, which is currently on display at the National Museum of Singapore. For your information, all the artefacts are original, not replicas! Read the rest of this entry »

There has been a tremendous response to the Civic Life 90 second short film competition, organised by the British Council, the National Museum of Singapore and the Singapore International Foundation.

Over 100 films were submitted, with a wide range of subjects, approaches and themes. They are beautiful, thoughtful and often very quirky looks at Singapore, which in their totality have given a sweeping portrait of Singapore’s landscapes, both physical and emotional.

There will be a public vote for Best Film from THIS Friday (24th) through to Thursday 30th September, with the winning film scooping a CANON camera for its maker. There is also a Jury Prize, the winner of which will be heading to Encounters, the UK’s leading short film festival. The filmmakers have responded brilliantly to the brief so do check out the films here, do share them with all your friends and do vote!

A selection of the films will be screened alongside TIONG BAHRU, when it opens at the National Museum in October.

Thanks to all of the filmmakers for taking part.
