Along Waterloo Street, there lies a building which is a place of worship for the Jewish community in Singapore. Built in 1878, it is the oldest synagogue in South-East-Asia where members of the Jewish community congregate to worship.

I am desperately trying to contact the above person, if indeed she is still alive, who was a dear friend of mine in Singapore in the mid 1960s. She used to present arts programmes on Radio Singapore. Her first names were Gladys Estelle. Her parents were Alan and Esther (nee Elias) Manasseh, and she had two older siblings Leonard and Sylvia. Gem lived on the Serangoon Garden Estate
in Berwick Drive no. 20 I think. I left Singapore in 1967 and we lost touch during the 1970′s. I did hear that she was beset with money problems in the 1980′s. She drove a large ancient black Citroen, reminiscent of the Maigret tv series which was popular at the time. I often think of her and wonder what became of her and whether she got over her money worries. I am wondering if anyone in your community knew this lady and and could give me any news. I should be so grateful if you circulate this request for me. Thank you Alan Cottrell UK
